Operational Lease is the leasing solution for entrepreneurs who want to use a business asset without the risks and obligations of ownership. At De Nederlandse Leasemaatschappij (NLM) you rent the asset for an agreed period, while we, as the owner, often take care of maintenance, insurance and residual value risk. This keeps your balance sheet light and your business operations flexible.
How does Operational Lease work?
With Operational Lease you rent the business asset for a period agreed in advance. NLM remains the owner, so you run no risk of obsolescence, depreciation or residual value. You simply book the lease instalments as an operating expense through your profit and loss account, instead of as an investment on your balance sheet.
At the end of the term, NLM often offers you the option to take over the asset through a purchase option, so you remain in control of what suits your business best. As with Financial Lease, we always match the term to the asset being leased, in consultation with you and - where relevant - the supplier.
Advantages of Operational Lease at NLM
No ownership risk
NLM remains the owner, so you carry no risk of depreciation or obsolescence of the asset.
An expense, not balance sheet pressure
Lease instalments run through your profit and loss account, without the asset appearing on your balance sheet.
Maintenance and insurance arranged
We often take on the risks around maintenance and insurance, depending on the arrangements we make together.
Flexibility at the end of the term
Thanks to a purchase option you decide yourself whether to take over, extend or trade in the asset.
Who is Operational Lease suitable for?
Operational Lease is particularly suitable for entrepreneurs who want access to up-to-date business assets - such as machinery, vehicles or equipment - without bearing the risk of ownership and depreciation. Because the lease instalment is processed as an operating cost rather than an investment, you keep your balance sheet lean and your company financially flexible.
Operational Lease or Financial Lease?
Not sure whether operational lease or financial lease is the better fit? With Financial Lease you become the economic owner from day one and work towards legal ownership, whereas Operational Lease lets you use the asset without ownership risk. Tax benefits & subsidies
With operational lease you deduct the lease instalments as business expenses. Depending on the asset and your situation, targeted subsidies may also apply. We are happy to explain which leasing form works out best fiscally. See tax benefits & subsidies.
